What Folk Are Saying About the New Record

“This album is folk rock in its purest form… I am looking forward to what is to come in the future from Annie Crane. If you get the chance to listen, do not pass it up!” Rickard Holmgren, Melodic.net

“Local Annie Crane plays fabulous folk with enough thoughtful twang to transport you back in time…and down South”. - Time Out NY

Writing from a Folk/Punk perspective, Brook Pridemore of JezebelMusic.com says, “Crane’s proven that her gentle brand of country folk carries just as much weight as the ‘insurgent’ stuff I’m regularly drawn to… In a more just world, “I’ll Be Right Here” would get as much airplay as “Not Ready to Make Nice” (or some other dogshit young country track)”. - Brooke Pridemore, JezebelMusic.com

“Annie Crane, who has a very high and pure voice, show(s) a lot of lyrical and musical talent”. - Martin Overheul, Altcountryforum.nl

Neo-Folk Songbirds Tour Southeast

TWO BROOKLYN NEO-FOLK SONGBIRDS TOUR SOUTHEAST, BRAND-NEW ALBUMS IN TOW

Two of Brooklyn’s most popular singer/songwriters will be touring the Southeast April 30 through May 9—and celebrating simultaneous album releases. With Annie Crane’s urban Americana wanderings and Royal Pine’s old-timey gypsy gatherings, it is sure to be a tour of and for fearless folk.

“Mature, minimalist, and she’s got  depth to her voice that lends credence to even her most mythical poetic wanderings. Finally, here’s a girl-guitar combo that is unapologetic but never angsty”. Urban Folk Zine, Issue 16

Annie Crane’s ethereal original music woos crowds with stories of immigrant grandparents, February ice storms, heartache in snowy Toronto and an industrially sweet Brooklyn love. Crane has played the Mercury Lounge, Rockwood Musichall and countless other famed NY venues. She returns this year to the New Jersey Folk Festival as a main stage featured act, has toured the Southeast and New England, appeared on numerous radio programs (Americana Crossroads, WTBU’s “Over Yonder”) and shared the stage with the Corduroy Road, Au Revoir Simone and The Bowmans.

“With wild hair and gypsy music, she brings an ache-y folk sound to the stage. Singing songs of Winnebago’s and the 1977 blackout, Royal Pine is what would happen if The Mamas and The Papas merge with Loretta Lynn and picked up the ukulele”. Nuvo

Royal Pine, a one-woman show, featuring former member of Crooked Jades Robin Aigner, has toured extensively in the Southeast, been featured on countless radio broadcasts (WDVX’s Blue Plate, Americana Crossroads) and festivals (3 years at Bristol Rhythm & Roots, among others) and has shared tours and bills with The Everybodyfields, Ian Thomas, The Be Good Tanyas, Two Man Gentleman Band and more. Royal Pine’s quirky, irreverent old-timey/gypsy folk has a loyal following in the Southeast.

A Quick Update

New Pictures…

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of working with the wonderful Inbal Sivan on photography for my upcoming CD (scheduled for release this April). Inbal is an Israeli born, New York based photographer who has worked with Time Out New York, Cool’eh Magazine, and Vision Magazine. Thank you to her grandparents, husband & apartment building for the use of their miscellaneous spaces for this shoot! Go to Photos to view these fantastic new pictures.

CD Release Show & May Southern Tour…

The recording is near done, the art is coming along and the plans are underway. Get ready for the big bad CD release party this April. AND… come May 1st I will be hitting the road with Robin Aigner of Royal Pine to tour the southeastern states. Check back for exact dates and locations as they are confirmed over the next few months.

My voice is a bear…

As my witty and talented friend Elizabeth Devlin put it: “Your voice is kinda like a bear…come spring it will wake up and come out of its winter hibernation…until then…I will listen to the recordings”. I have recently been diagnosed with “muscle tension dysphonia” which is a catch all phrase for vocal chords that are not working as they should. I will be laying low (vocally) and resting up for the CD release show in April.

Thank you all for checking in! Always, A.

Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays & New Year!

My favorite holiday film is It’s a Wonderful Life. As some of you may know, my song Seneca Falls was inspired by this classic movie. The town of Seneca Falls, NY claims that when Frank Capra visited in 1945, he was inspired to model Bedford Falls after it. I can vouch for its similarities. In February of 2007, I took a little trip up there; stayed in a lovely B&B, crossed a bridge reminiscent of where George Bailey (Jimmy Stewart) took his critical jump and was inspired to write a song.

Seneca Falls will be released on my upcoming record and features Adam Christgau on drums, Evan Silverman on upright bass and Alexa Woodward on banjo. I can’t wait to share it with you!

Thanks to all who came out to the Crown Point festival!

From the organization….
